Knowing One's Place by Robin Pearson

Knowing One's Place 2021Community and Class in the Industrial Suburbs of Leeds during the Eighteenth and Nineteenth Centuries

The Society’s 2021 monograph by Robin Pearson, on the Leeds out-townships during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, is a thought provoking book, making excellent use of primary source material, and addressing an area long neglected Leeds historians. `Professor Pearson examines the changes at Hunslet, Holbeck, Armley, Beeston, Bramley and Wortley, villages whose growth was closely connected with the development of the woollen industry. The book is well illustrated throughout with tables and maps, as well as illustrations, many of which come from the Society’s own collection. Professor Pearson is professor of Economic History at the University of Hull, and is a former student of Leeds University, where he gained a Ph.D.
