Registers of the Chapels of the Parish Church of Leeds. 1724-1703, with a few earlier years (St. John's, Holy Trinity, Armley, Beeston, Bramley, Chapel Allerton, Farnley, Headingley, Holbeck and Hunslet), First and Second Books;
transcribed and ed. by G. D. Lumb;

PREFACE

This Volume contains the entries in the first and second Books of the Leeds Parish Church Chapelries Register, and includes the years 1724 to 1763, both inclusive, with earlier entries taken from the Register Books at the Chapels of Beeston, Bramley, Headingley, and Holbeck.

As explained in a note printed on p. 16, the entries in the Leeds Parish Church Books have been compared with the Books at the Chapels, and the variations and additions are shown by square brackets.

It will be noticed that in some years many entries have been omitted from the Leeds Parish Church Books which appear in the Books at the Chapels.

The printed sheets have been compared with the Register Books at the Parish Church, and when necessary with the Chapel Books.

The thanks of the Society are due to the Vicar of Leeds (the Rev. Canon Samuel Bickersteth) for his kind permission to print the Register, to the Incumbents of the Chapels of Armley, Beeston, Bramley, Headingley, Holbeck, and Hunslet (the Revs. H. St. J. S. Woolcombe, Wm. Nutley, F. Wolde, G. A. Hollis, W. J. Smith, and C. Gallacher) for kindly allowing the Chapel Registers to be compared with the Parish Church Register, to Mr. Jesse Andrews Myers for willingly undertaking the laborious work of preparing an index of both Christian and Surnames and of Places, and to Mr. Brumwell, the Registrar, for facilitating the transcription of the Register at the Parish Church.
